Explore the Authentic Heart of Lanzarote
Package holidaymakers have been visiting the small Canary Island of Lanzarote ever since the 1970´s. When the island first started to appear in the brochures of tour operators in the UK and across Europe. Its popularity sealed by its breathtaking beaches and equally wonderful weather. But this popular destination offers more than sea, sun and sand. As careful development has created a largely unspoilt holiday island.
Much like other islands in the Canaries there is a pronounced north-south divide on Lanzarote. With tourist development and the main resorts confined to the south – which enjoys the best of the weather. Whilst the north remains the domain of the locals, with less development and a cooler climate.
The last decade has seen more independent travellers visiting the island alongside package holidaymakers. Thanks to the fact that flights and accommodation can now easily be booked direct online, creating a demand for rental properties – such as Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments. Which are now booked by visitors from countries such as the UK and Eire in preference to hotels and all inclusive holidays. Away from the main holiday resorts though there lies an island full of surprises and attractions. Many of which lie well off the beaten track. So visitors are well advised to hire a car and explore. Especially in the north which is still widely regarded as the true heart of the island.
To connect with the real Lanzarote just drive to the north of Lanzarote and stroll around the incredibly picturesque village of Haria. Which also plays host to a great market every Saturday morning. Haria has been described as the prettiest village on the island – if not the world. And whilst the former is true the latter is something of an exaggeration. Although Haria is a real gem as it is very green and verdant whilst the rest of Lanzarote is arid and dry. A phenomenon that is not all down to Mother Nature as locals here continue to follow a tradition of planting a Canarian palm for every newborn baby in the village. No wonder it has long been described as the Valley of 1000 Palms!

Folks did any of you see todays Nation newspaper where there is a front page story about the arrival of the Scotish cricket team much to my utter disgust here we have in a peaceful fun loving place like Barbados we are now being potrayed as gun bearing louts on high for a terrorist attack at our could this not have been enforced more discretely and with a less in your face approach after all we all know that the can afford to buy guns they do not need to that on the front page of the daily paper.
To hell with the fun in the sea and the sun approach to tourism now welcome to Barbados where as you walk outside the your security will be taken care of by the armed guards standing outside the doorway they are there to prevent any bombs, snipers or groggist attacking you.
