Winter Season Sun Sea And Fun In Gorgeous Lanzarote

The onset of wintry weather and also the gloomy economic news definitely makes the idea of visiting a sunshine destination substantially more attractive than usual. However, far flung locations are often expensive to reach, so it pays to search closer to home for your winter sun break.

The very nearest spot for English travelers to venture to must be the Canary Islands, because of their year round sunny climate and vacation atmosphere. And the driest of the seven islands will undoubtedly be Lanzarote, the easternmost island.

Just how dry the climate is can be seen by travelers and tourists as they arrive, with Canarian palms some of the most abundant trees on Lanzarote. Plus the volcanic landscape in the distance shows just how little vegetation is able to stay alive for much of the year, as the bare mountain slopes attest.

But this doesn’t stop the main tourist resorts from looking tropical and verdant, as the climate helps many exotic blooms and flowers to thrive. Indeed, many holiday villas in Lanzarote have enchanting gardens, with palms and bougainvillea flourishing round their private pools.

Away from the resorts, the many villages and towns dotted around the island are also attractively planted, as horticulture is a popular past-time in more rural areas. This relationship with nature and agriculture forms the basis of several of the leading attractions on the island, developed by César Manrique, artist and architect.

And it is this artist´s influence that has also kept the tourist resorts, such as Puerto del Carmen, from turning into a concrete jungle. Instead the developments here, including hotels and apartment complexes are all low-rise buildings that are softened by the gardens surrounding them.

A high proportion of those visiting the island will stay in self-catering accommodation, meaning their apartments in Lanzarote form an ideal base for getting out and about. And with such an array of great beaches, unique tourist attractions and beautiful landscapes, there is plenty to lure tourists away from the sun beds.

The arid climate also creates the perfect conditions for many sporting activities, with cycling and running being amongst the most popular. But even for those who prefer something more sedate, the pleasure of outdoor living is undeniable.

The island’s laid back culture and atmosphere is yet another reason why many visitors to Lanzarote return for further holidays. Because despite the island’s relatively small size, there are a surprising number of new things to discover each time or familiar places that deserve another visit.

Take A Vacation To Historic Lanzarote And Revel In Its Fiery Heritage

Keen volcanologists may well be studying the activity occurring on the Canarian island of El Hierro with interest, as an eruption could be due any day. However, those who wish to study volcanoes when they are less active may well prefer to holiday in Lanzarote, which has over 300 sleeping craters.

The most easterly Canary island has in fact had no seismic activity for over a century and the most devastating eruptions go back virtually 3 hundred years. Instead, Lanzarote´s legacy of volcanic hardship has long been skillfully metamorphosed into the island´s most popular visitor attractions.

When visitors arrive at the islands Timanfaya National Park, they are able to view much of the fiery landscape from a well constructed tour through the lava and craters. And once they have seen the panorama of destruction, they can dine in the restaurant which harnesses geothermal heat from the ground to fuel the huge barbecue.

Whilst most visitors to the region will always make a bee – line for the Timanfaya National Park, there also a variety of additional volcanic visitors attractions on the island, including a subterranean residence fashioned from hollow lava pockets, along with the green caves where local inhabitants use to hide from marauding pirates.

Much the best way to see the extent of the volcanic region is through organising Lanzarote car hire and spending a day touring through Timanfaya, the natural volcano park and the wine-growing area of La Geria. All of these distinct zones were created by seismic activity at different points in the island´s history. The resourcefulness of local farmers is much in evidence, especially in the regions where vines and other crops are still cultivated. So successful has this unique method of cultivation become that several bodegas have been awarded prizes for the wines they produce.

For those visitors who are based in one of the many hotels in Lanzarote, there is the option of choosing a day trip or excursion instead of undertaking the driving oneself. The vast majority of excursions include a pick up and drop off to the hotel´s front door.

The attraction of Lanzarote is un-avoidable and quite a few tourists visit again and again to either laze on the beautiful beaches, absorb the local culture at during the islands countless carnivals all year round, or simply just to unwind in the year round sunny climate.

The Island Of Lanzarote – The Spanish Dream Holiday Destination

Where in the world is Lanzarote? To find this popular island just locate the Iberian Peninsula on an atlas, trace down onto Africa´s west coast and there you´ll see the Canaries situated just off the coast of Morocco. These seven islands are owned by Spain and offer great weather whatever the time of year which of course is one of their major attractions, and Lanzarote is physically situated closest to the mainland.

This geographic location places Lanzarote on the same line of latitude as parts of Mexico and the Bahamas, close to the Tropic of Cancer. But whilst these other locations are arguably more exotic Lanzarote still manages to match them in the department that really matters – delivering equally good weather and a very clement climate, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius during the summer and a minimum of 20 degrees in winter. Making it the ideal spot for a sunshine break whatever the time of the year.

During the 1970´s and 80´s the expansion of the island’s tourist industry was fuelled by package holidaymakers, primarily from the UK and Germany. But since then the travel market has changed, with travel agents disappearing fast , which has created a growing demand for private accommodation to rent, so travellers are looking for Lanzarote villas direct on line themselves, along with flights, which take just four hours from the UK.

Puerto del Carmen is the spot where the best of the island’s holiday accommodation can be found. It´s situated on the sunny south eastern shoreline of the island and offers a wide array of hotels. Along with hundreds of good quality Puerto del Carmen villas. The type of accommodation that is most sought after by travellers in search of independence and privacy.

The other main resort on Lanzarote is called Playa Blanca – or White Beach. But it’s by no means second best as it usually enjoys better weather than the rest of the island and also boast the best beaches.. With tourists visiting here having a choice of 3 different golden sand beaches within the resort. Plus the coves and bays of Papagayo just fifteen minutes away. All of these factors ensure that Playa Blanca villas for rent are very popular with tourists.

For a small island, the island has a good selection of sight-seeing opportunities and sites of interest, which offer a fantastic variety of things to do, from cultural activities to sporting activities. The majority of these provide you with an unique insight into the everyday lives of Canarians both from an historic viewpoint and a modern one.
